A Fine copy of this delightful book, usually found in worn condition. 64pp with 14 full-page color plates and many full-page and smaller black & white images of beautiful fairies and adorable fairy children. Among the fairies we meet are the Wind People, the Rain People, the Flower Fairies, the Dancing Sunbeams, Jack Frost and many others. [SOLD]

[32]pp. Beautiful, atmospheric color illustrations throughout by Adrienne Adams. A boy and his sister get up very early while it's still dark and, for the first time, see the golden sun slowly rise behind the hill. We follow the children through a beautiful summer day and in the evening their mother explains what they've seen, telling them all about the rising and setting of the sun. Awarded a Caldecott Honor. (32)pp with exquisite color and black & white illustrations from the author's paintings. The first book both written and illustrated by Groves-Raines, a tale which grew out of his affection for his small niece. The amusing story of Olga, a wee black hen who decides to take on a new job - that of personal maid to the untidy young Julia. $50.00

Berta and Elmer Hader's Picture Book of the States
Hader, Bertha and Elmer. New York: Harper & Brothers, 1932. First Edition. 12.5"x9.25" Decorated cloth. Light wear to spine head and corner tips, a little smudging to a text page else Very Good in Good+ dustjacket, chipped, torn on lower panel. (64)pp. One of the most fabulous productions from this husband and wife team, featuring 28 full-page color pictorial maps representing the 48 states and the District of Columbia. Maps are highly detailed and entertaining, incorporating history, noteworthy people, industry, agriculture, recreation, topography and interesting facts about each state. The jam-packed California map even pictures the electric car which carried tourists up Mt. Lowe. Pages are bordered in blue line with pink scallops very much like the decoration used in the Hader's Mother Goose. A really wonderful book. [SOLD]

The Little Stone House: A Story of Building a House in the Country
Hader, Bertha and Elmer. New York: Macmillan (1944). First Edition. 8.25"x10.25" Green decorated cloth. Near Fine in chipped dustjacket. (64)pp. Color and black and white illustrations by the authors. The Haders used the surrounds of their house in the country as the setting for many of their books. This is the largely autobiographical story of the building of that home in picture book format. We follow Mr. and Mrs. Doe and their children, Dottie and Bobbie, through all the steps of the home's construction, ending with a wonderful double-page spread of the family and their friends at a colorful Thanksgiving feast in the "little stone house." A most delightful book and quite uncommon in dustjacket. $150.00

Orlando and the Three Graces

Near Fine in dustjacket, lightly frayed. 30pp. A Christmas fantasy wherein we meet not one Grace but three (and which is Orlando's dear wife and the mother of the kittens?) and the huge white cat, Santa Claws, who is called upon to solve the Grace dilemma. With Hale's delightful illustrations in vibrant color and black & white. There is no other fictional cat quite like the amazing Orlando! [SOLD]

With three double-page two-color illustrations by Paul Brown plus additional full-page and smaller line drawings within the text. An uncommon title, quite scarce in dustjacket. $200.00

(32)pp. Harris retells the Russian folk tale of the king who would not give up his daughter until a suitor came for her in a flying ship. When a prospect appears suitably transported, the king finds three impossible tasks for him to perform. With Errol Le Cain's splendid color illustrations and intricate borders on every page of text. $85.00

My Prairie Year: Based on the Diary of Elenore Plaisted
Harvey, Brett. Illustrations by Ray, Deborah Kogan. New York: Holiday House (1986). First Edition. 10.25"x8.25". Cloth-backed boards. Fine in Very Good dustjacket with a few closed tears. Children's book illustrator Elenore Plaisted wrote a diary of her remembrances of the Dakota prairies in the last half of the 19th century. Her granddaughter has drawn on this writing to bring us a warm narrative of homesteading on the prairie, enhanced by powerful black & white pictures that aptly capture the experience. $15.00

Amy Loves the Sun

(32)pp. Fine in almost Fine dustjacket, lightly faded at the fore-edge folds. A memorable and beautiful version of this old tale, as to both text and illustration. Jarrell's translation is "as much like the real German story as I could make it" and Burkert's illustrations are detailed and lovely. Awarded a 1973 Caldecott Honor. [SOLD]

Cowboy Small is everything any young cowpoke would want to be. He has a horse named Cactus, lives on the Bar S Ranch, rides the range and fixes fences, sleeps under the stars or in the bunkhouse, plays the guitar and sings and even rides a bucking bronco!
