Later they're joined by fairies, sprites and gnomes who fly in through the casement window and everyone has a wonderful time. When the cock crows, the dolls resume their places and the children awake to find their room not quite as they left it! Inscribed and signed by the author. Wireman studied with Howard Pyle at Drexel and her color illustrations are somewhat reminiscent of Jessie Willcox Smith. The story concerns the beautiful Parisian doll Roxana Rosebud and her little mother Jessie. Jessie, carrying Roxana, ventures into a place where she's not supposed to go and the fairies must come and rescue them. A Fine bright copy.

Gates, the author of the Live Dolls stories, says in her introduction that most of the stories in this book are based on true episodes and that the dolls which appear are not alive. All plates are present but the plate called for on page 8 appears as the frontis and the plate called for as the frontis appears as the cover illustration in this edition. Small bookplate to ffep, tiny holes along both joints, spine lettering a little faded else Very Good.
