8vo Decorated yellow cloth. 104pp. Illustrated with many lively little line drawings by Kurt Wiese, all infused with his ever ready humor. Hirum was the stubbornest kind of mule but he was quite fond of young Wes. Phil Stong called Hirum a "devoted, dynamiteous 'pet'" but his antics save the family farm in the Ozarks. Stong and Wiese created several memorable books together, including a Newbery honor. Lower corner bumped else Very Good. Dustjacket with creases, tears and chipping, some evidence of water marks.
