The story of a little black boy named Shine, his Aunt Cindy, and his big, yellow pup Butch, who live out in the country in the South. Arna Bontemps gave children a book full of interesting episodes and several dashes of real excitement. Cloth lightly soiled along lower edge of upper cover. Name on ffep stroked through with black marker, light marginal finger soil else Very Good. Dustjacket is dust-soiled and darkened, chipped, worn, and torn along edges, with a few light pencil marks to upper panel. A scarce early title, particularly in the jacket, by this noted Harlem Renaissance poet and writer.
