Freeman, Don Come Again, Pelican New York Viking Press (1961) First Edition Oblong octavo. Yellow decorated cloth. 44pp with vibrant color illustrations throughout. Every year Ty's family camp in their trailer in the same spot on the white sand dunes by the ocean and every year the pelican is there waiting for Ty. The story is obviously set at a California beach and Don Freeman's illustrations are evocative and beautiful. This title was honored as the 1962 Significant contribution in the field of illustration by the Southern California Council on Literature for Children and Young People. Freeman, Don Dandelion New York: Viking Press, 1964 First Edition Oblong octavo. Yellow decorated cloth. 48pp with Don Freeman's marvelous two-color illustrations throughout. Freeman created many memorable characters, among them the well named Dandelion. Bader (p. 209) says that nothing Freeman did was more deft than Dandelion. "...Dandelion is all Dandelion's show, and all the funnier because it's played straight." Very Good+ in frayed and edge worn dustjacket. Two pigeons make their nest in the letter B of an electric sign atop a tall hotel in San Francisco. But the old hotel is scheduled for demolition! Don Freeman's marvelous pictures give us a sweeping bird's-eye view of the city, the sky, the sea and the Golden Gate Bridge. A Caldecott Honor book. Evidence of paper remnants to ffep with a few small scuff marks and bits of glue to paste-down else Very Good. Dustjacket with tiny chips, some edge wear, three-inch closed tear to lower panel. Red-headed Moppy doesn't have time to go to the barbershop - he's too busy playing! Tiny stain and small margin repair; old tape mark to each pastedown and jacket flap. About Very Good. Dustjacket torn and worn, lightly chipped; spotting and small ink name to lower panel. Nice image of Don Freeman and his six-year-old son Roy on lower jacket panel. Bader (p. 208) writes that Mop Top has "some of Freeman's best on-the-spot drawing." Price:

The story of Willowby Waddle, the country goose who wanted to be useful, and how he went to Londontown and rendered an invaluable service to none other than Will Shakespeare! This copy with a large inscription by Freeman on the front free endpaper and with an ink drawing of Will's quill, colored with what looks like white conté crayon. Southern California Council on Literature for Young People and Children Award for Significant contribution in the field of illustration for total concept and illustration.
