This little book was likely published in the 1950's to early 1960's. Written in Devanagari script, the language is probably Marathi or Hindi and the title a generic term similar to "ABC's". Spine rubbed, covers frayed with some creasing and a small surface chip at fore edge else Very Good overall. A charming ABC.

Quarto. Ribbed cream cloth with large pictorial paste-on. 112pp printed on heavy stock with lovely decorations in soft tones of pink and gray by Clara Powers Wilson. Several entries briefly document the babyhood of the two sons of Myrtle Guidery Kilkenny and Lucas Edward Kilkenny of Salinas, California. Their baby boys were born in 1913 and 1918. Two photos of one of the babies laid in. The toys given the older son included an ivory ring, a celluloid rattle, "The Red Dog", wooden letter blocks, a rocking horse, and a teddy bear won at a raffle by his father. Light foxing to end papers and first leaf, light cover soil, spine darkened, small nick to spine edge else about Very Good. A beautiful book.

5-1/4"x8" Illustrated wraps. 48pp plus 8 color and 8 black & white plates, and with numerous small in-text drawings from the catalogue's offerings. Macmillan's juvenile department was created in 1919 and was the first juvenile department in the country, probably the first anywhere, ushering in an exciting, creative decade in children's book publishing. Over 400 titles from Macmillan's American and English catalogues were offered here, with each of the new books fully described. The perennially popular "Silver Pennies" was added to the Little Library books, new titles by Thornton Burgess and Rachel Field appeared, as well as Anne Carroll Moore's "The Three Owls," Attilio Mussino's wonderful Pinocchio and other memorable books. Illustrators included Marguerite de Angeli, Dorothy Lathrop, Elizabeth MacKinstry, Dugald Walker, Lois Lenski, Willy Pogany, Boris Artzybasheff, and many others. A fascinating look at children's book publishing between the wars and an excellent reference. Spine separated above and below staples, repaired tears to upper cover else Good+

Spine sewn, upper cover chipped at lower corner and with several edge tears, blank lower cover with pencil scribbles. Light soil and small edge tears to leaves but color illustrations are clean and attractive.
